All employers are responsible for the health and safety of all their employees.  For example they should provide first aid equipment, adequate means of escape in case of fire and personal protective equipment (PPE) and should ensure that all machinery is safe. 

(Further note on Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): PPE is intended to be worn or held by a person at work which protects them against risks to their health or safety.   For example safety helmets, gloves, eye protection, high-visibility clothing, safety footwear and safety harnesses.)
