Pet and Animal Emergencies

This section provides information on laws which protect animals and who to contact if you have a pet or animal emergency.

There is legislation in the UK to protect the health and safety of animals, including pets, farmed and wild animals. If you own or keep an animal you have a legal duty to make sure that it is cared for.

The RSPCA (The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) is a charity that prevents the cruelty and suffering of animals.  If you know of an animal that is injured or is being treated badly, call the RSPCA's national 24-hour cruelty and advice line

RSPCA 24-hour helpline: 0300 1234 999*
